Keynote presentation by Dr. John W. Peabody

John W. Peabody, M.D., D.T.M.&H., MPhil, Ph.D. FACP is the Deputy Director of Global Health Sciences at UCSF and heads their health policy activities. He is also a Senior Vice President and Medical Director at Sg2 a health intelligence company advising hospitals and physicians on how to measure and advance healthcare delivery, finance and planning. He has been a member of the University of California since 1995. He holds a joint appointment in the Department of Health Services at UCLA in the School of Public Health and holds an honorary faculty appointment at Tulane. He was at RAND for nine years working as a senior scientist and Principal Investigator. Before RAND, Dr. Peabody worked for the World Health Organization in Geneva and Manila for three years; he also spent two years as Director for Project Hope in China.
Richard Caligaris is Managing Director of a strategy and marketing consultancy. He has over 19 years of medical technology commercialization and marketing experience spanning the biopharm, diagnostic and device industries. During the last ten years, he has worked within three different divisions of Johnson & Johnson, most recently at Scios Inc. where he was Senior Director, International Marketing. Prior to J & J, he spent five years at Merck & Co., Inc. within U.S. Sales and Marketing.
David Collier, MD, joined CMEA Capital as a Managing Director in 2001. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of five CMEA portfolio companies: Arcadia Biosciences, Ardelyx, Auspex Pharmaceuticals, Sorbent Therapeutics, and VeraLight, and is Chairman of the Board of Arcion Therapeutics. Before joining CMEA, David was a Managing Director at Burrill & Co., a private merchant bank focused exclusively on life science companies. Before joining Burrill, David served as a consultant at Arthur D. Little and Magainin Pharmaceuticals.
Jonathan Freudman, MD has over twenty five years of experience in healthcare encompassing a wide range of clinical, administrative and business challenges. He has been an independent consultant since 2002. Previously, Dr. Freudman managed Blue Shield of California’s Medical Policy Department. His responsibilities included new technology assessment, medical policy, disease management programs and clinical guideline development. He chaired the health plan’s Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee and served on the national Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) Medical Policy Committee.
